ABB to provide HVDC technology to transmit wind power from North Sea

13 May 2019

ABB's Power Grids business has been awarded a triple digit million-dollar order from the Aibel/Keppel FELS consortium to provide HVDC technology for the offshore wind connection project DolWin5.

The order includes a converter platform in the North Sea, and an onshore converter station, with transformers and other associated electrical equipment, located in Emden, in the Lower Saxony region of Germany, ABB said in a press release.

This project will deliver 900 megawatts of zero-carbon electricity - enough to power around 1 million homes - from three wind farms located some 100 km off the German coast.

It is scheduled for completion in 2024.
