ABB powers pioneering floating solar plant in Switzerland

12 Dec 2019

SWITZERLAND - ABB in partnership with Romande Energie will supply its inverter solutions for one of the world's highest floating solar plants located on the artificial lake Lac des Toules in the Swiss Alps.

For the plant, situated 5,938 feet (1,810 meters) above sea level, ABB will supply a complete technology package, including string inverters, a transformer station with a dry transformer, and switchgear for medium and low voltage.

The plant in Lac des Toules is unique due it its high-altitude location and climatic conditions, with extreme minus temperatures and low solar irradiation.

It is predicted to produce more than 800,000 kWh of electricity per year and supply up to 220 homes in the region.
