300 MVA 420/132 kV power transformer finally arrives in Norway

NORWAY - This new power transformer will be located in Oslo and will secure the power supply of the Norwegian capital.


Guilhem Blanchet, Technical Lead, Substation Primary Components, Projects division at Statnett SF, has announced that after two years of intense work with specifications, clarification, contract award, design and testing; the 300 MVA 420/132 kV Power Transformer has finally arrived in Norway.

Blanchet had the opportunity to follow the Power transformer night transport though Oslo. 72 m (0.04 miles) long convoy distributed on 38 axles for a total of 152 wheels. This new power transformer will be located in Oslo and will secure the power supply of the Norwegian capital.

According to Blanchet, the challenge of the project was to manage to locate this 300 MVA transformer in the very narrow transformer pit in the mountain. They had only 100 m2 (1076 ft2) available for the transformer.
