$26m substation project to modernize electricity network in Fife, Scotland

8 May 2019

SCOTLAND, UNITED KINGDOM - SP Energy Networks has started a major $26 million (£20 million) project to modernize a key part of the power network in Central and Southern Scotland.

The multi-million-pound investment will allow for major upgrades on Kincardine Substation in Fife which plays a vital part in transporting electricity to Central and Southern Scotland and beyond, reports Network.

The project that will take two years to complete will involve the replacement of ageing equipment as well as the construction of a gas insulated switchgear building onto a raised platform that will strengthen the resilience of the existing coastal defences on site, ensuring a safe and reliable electricity supply.

The substation, which is located on reclaimed land on the north shore of the Firth of Forth, will be upgraded in various phases and involve the demolition and removal of the concrete gantries on which the existing switchgear is mounted.
