211-ton transformer successfully moved to Newport News substation

29 Mar 2019

Dynamic Specialized of New Kent, Virginia has successfully moved a large 211-ton power transformer 10 miles from Newport News.

To move the transformer for a local substation in Newport News, the hauling company specialists assembled the trailer in a 4+6 combination with flat deck, reports Cranes Today.

"We had a permitted gross weight of 423,430 lb and rough outline dimensions of 130 ft length, 11 ft 4 in width and 15 ft 3 in height," explained operations manager Josh Sohler.

From the Newport News Marine Terminal, Dynamic Specialized transported the transformer about 10 miles in total, with various restrictions, including using city jurisdictional streets, the state maintained roads, entering the interstate highway and back onto the city streets for the final delivery.
