1,400 ton transformer reaches Triton Knoll offshore windfarm

16 Apr 2020

LINCOLNSHIRE, UK - A massive 1,400 ton transformer has been towed off to be installed at the 857 MW Triton Knoll Offshore Windfarm, located some 20 miles off the Lincolnshire coast.

This is the first of two Siemens Offshore Transformer Modules (OTM) that will be installed to stabilize and maximize the voltage of the power created by the wind turbines, before transmitting it to a substation in Bicker Fen which will feed the energy into the grid, reports Lincolnshire Live.

The 134.5 feet tall OTM took six days to reach its final position.

The second OTM will also be delivered from Belgium, where they are manufactured, in the coming months.
